Worst of the Naturist World

There are a lot of web sites out there selling sex under the label of nudism, but one of the worst has to be RussianBare.com.

I don't even feel comfortable linking to it, but it's out there, and it's legal, and it gives me the creeps.

Why? Because RussianBare.com deals primarily in nude photos of prepubescent children.

In 1987, Lee Baxandall wrote a letter to Ed Lange expressing concern about one of his publications.

Peenhill's other publication, Jeunes et naturelles, appeals primarily to pedophiles, and encourages them to feel welcome in nudist/naturist circles. Its appeal to legitimate, family-oriented naturists is nil, as it rarely shows family activities or parents. The whole point consists of posed full-frontal photo sequences of pubescents. Young and Naked is your own title with strong appeal to the pedophiles.

RussianBare.com is not child pornography in the strictest definition, but it comes close. It is clearly exploitation, throwing in enough photos of adults in true naturists engaging in various activities to give some cover of credibility.

I don't see how full-frontal photos of nude children engaging in body painting, dressing up in costumes, or getting a massage can appeal to anyone other than a pedophile. These people are selling perversion.

AANR uses photos of nude children in promoting nudism as a family activity, but the context is completely different, usually showing a child with grandparents, or in a mother's arms, always lovingly. Nudism and naturism must remain socially safe for people of all ages, that's the heart of the philosophy, that all bodies are good, and that being without clothes is natural and healthy. Children are natural nudists, and their right to remain free and innocent is the responsibility of adults to make sure they are safe.

Once you take that family activity and turn it into a money-making venture selling photos, books and DVDs of nude children running around strictly for the photo opportunities, you have a perversion of naturism.

It's a very difficult subject for nudists and naturists, and oftentimes it is simply avoided. I don't know how you shut down a site like RussianBare.com, perhaps you cannot. The false indignation over artistic photos by artists like Bill Henson or Jock Sturges, the furor over Annie Leibovitz's photo of Miley Cyrus, and the legal suspicions leveled against parents who take nude photos of their own children are misdirected, distracting attention from the true exploiters who continue to thrive.

ABC News recently aired a program showing how a child could be bought in ten hours, flying from New York City to Haiti, for only $150. The seller didn't care if the child was to be sexually abused, or placed into slavery, or whatever. Where is the outcry over this? Show Miley Cyrus with tousled hair and a bare back, and the country comes to a standstill. Sell a little boy or little girl in Haiti for the price of an iPod, and nobody cares.

Compared to child trafficking in the world, the RussianBare.com site seems tame. After all, the children are all shown having fun, playing games, eating sweets, getting gifts. But these kids are still being used as props and products to appeal to the lowest common denominator, and, as Lee Baxandall said, it encourages pedophiles to feel welcome in the naturist world.

Naturists and nudists need to be emphatic - there is no place in our world for child exploiters like RussianBare.com.

Here's an update on my previous post concerning The Naked, the Nude and the Nekkid blog, which I feel is among the worst offenders of naturist sensibilities on the Internet.

Apparently my mention of Nacktman's smutty "naturist" blog has doubled his web traffic, and has also resulted in Google putting a content warning in place, which leads me to believe that there was a rise in complaints along with the readership.

Naturally, Nacktman attributes the increase in traffic to the content warning, boasting that his readers are people "with a mind and the ability to use it." He also makes this astounding statement:

We will continue to bring you details of those who seek to exploit others sexually and otherwise with stories about child molesters, human traffickers, rapists, dehumanizing corporations and the like.

All the while maintaining a sense of humor about it.

Nothing like a good child molester joke to start the day.

Worst of the Naturist World

In contrast to my series The Best of the Naturist World, occasionally I will take time to point out the worst.

It's difficult for any organization to look in the mirror and see the dark side, but a little honesty through introspection is a healthy thing. On this blog I make an effort to remain positive and seek out stories that support and sustain the clothes-free lifestyle, but the reality is that nudism and naturism has its fair share of creeps and charlatans.

Not that the situation is anywhere near as dire as exposed in Nikki Craft's Nudist/Naturist Hall of Shame. You can take any organization and make a laundry list of crimes and misdemeanors. The number of child molesting priests is well into the thousands, with over a half billion dollars paid by the church in settlements. And don't get me started on the number of dead and tortured victims of the Bush administration. Whatever your line of work, whatever church you attend, whatever organization you belong to, you will come across people that you just need to avoid.

While The Naked, the Nude and the Nekkid is probably not the absolute worst example of a nudist poseur, it comes close. "Nacktman" is a self-professed "Renaissance man" who runs "Forum Naturally" and Carolina Naturally. His blogs are a cesspool of smut, laden with fart and titty jokes, perpetuating the image of the nudist as a dirty old man. Nacktman no doubt grew up on a steady diet of Mad Magazine, Little Annie Fanny and Chester the Molester, and nothing else.

He was a frequent contributor to The ClothesFree Forums and has the dubious distinction of being banned from posting there.

People wonder why more women and young people don't get involved in nudism and naturism, and the image of someone like Nacktman is the primary reason. He's the guy at the nudist resort with the pot belly, smoking a cigar, sitting with his legs spread apart and leering at the ladies.

If I knew Nacktman was a member of any naturist group, I would avoid it like the plague.

I have been to three nudist resorts in Ohio and have yet to run into a Nacktman. One resort, Green Valley, took great precautions to screen us before we were allowed to disrobe and get to the pool. Thankfully, you are not likely to run into this sort of character at a TNS or AANR affiliated park or resort, leaving him to banging on a keyboard in the buff and pretending to be something he is not.

So "congratulations" to The Naked, The Nude and the Nekkid for being among the worst of the naturist world.

Best of the Naturist World

Previously I announced that I was going to compile a list of the top ten nudists/naturist people and web sites, and I wish to thank everyone who made a suggestion. I have modified by project a little, and will instead be doing a series of Best of the Naturist World posts where I will pay tribute to the people, places, clubs and web sites which have made positive contributions to nudism and naturism. Again, I invite all of you out there to make nominations by emailing me.

After compiling all the information I had to make my intended lists, I decided that a running feature would be preferable for a variety of reasons, chief among them the fact that I couldn't decide on the order of importance, and it seemed unfair to limit the number to ten. Also, since I came across to many unsavory characters and salacious web sites in my searching, I will be running a concurrent series of posts Worst of the Naturist World as a contrast. There's a lot of trash out there.
